Agreement 

These Terms of Use govern your use of saltedlogic.com. By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. 

Salted Logic Inc. is an Indigenous-led creative studio based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. In these terms, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Salted Logic Inc., and “you” means anyone visiting or using the site. 

Using the site 

You are welcome to browse this site, read our work, and share links to it. You agree to use the site lawfully and not to interfere with it — that means no attempting to gain unauthorized access, no introducing malicious code, no scraping or automated collection except by well-behaved search engine crawlers, and nothing that disrupts the site for others. 

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice. 

Our work and who owns it 

Everything on this site — writing, illustration, photography, film, design, layout, code, and the Salted Logic name and marks — is owned by Salted Logic Inc. or used with permission, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. 

You may not copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any of it without our written permission. This includes using our work to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop machine learning or generative artificial intelligence systems, and includes automated text and data mining. We reserve all rights not expressly granted here. 

Some work shown on this site was made for clients and partners, who may hold rights in it. Presence on this site is not permission to use it. 

A note on cultural material. Some of what appears here draws on Native Hawaiian knowledge, language, imagery, and moʻolelo, shared with us in relationship and often held by the communities we work with rather than by us. Copyright is a narrow instrument for this kind of material, and it is not the whole of what governs it. Please do not extract, reuse, or reinterpret cultural material from this site — including for research, publication, design, or AI training — without asking us first. We are glad to talk about appropriate use, and we will tell you when the answer is properly someone else’s to give. 

You may quote brief excerpts of our writing for commentary, criticism, scholarship, or news reporting, with attribution and a link. 

Getting in touch and joining our list 

Inquiries. When you contact us through the site, you are sending us a message, not entering into an agreement. Reaching out does not create a client relationship, and we are not obligated to respond or to take on work. 

Unsolicited ideas. Please do not send us confidential information, concepts, or proposals you expect us to keep secret or compensate you for. Anything you send through this site unprompted is treated as non-confidential, and we are free to work on similar things without obligation to you. If you want to share something in confidence, ask us first and we will set up a proper agreement. 

Mailing list. If you subscribe to our mailing list, it is delivered through Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), and your subscription is also subject to Mailchimp’s terms and privacy practices. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. We send occasional updates about our work — we do not sell or rent our list. 

How we handle the information you give us is described in our Privacy Policy at saltedlogic.com/privacy-policy. 

Links to other sites 

We link to other organizations, publications, funders, and platforms because their work is relevant to ours. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it. 

No warranties 

The site is provided as is and as available. We work to keep it accurate and current, but we make no warranties — express or implied — that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or fit for any particular purpose. 

Information on this site, including writing on conservation, policy, and cultural practice, is offered for general information. It is not legal, financial, scientific, or professional advice, and it should not be relied on as a substitute for advice suited to your situation. Where we cite guidelines or published work, please consult the source document. 

Limitation of liability 

To the fullest extent permitted by Hawaiʻi law, Salted Logic Inc. and its officers, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of this site, or from any content on it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred dollars (US$100). 

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. 

Indemnification 

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Salted Logic Inc. from any claims, losses, or expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of your misuse of the site or your violation of these terms or of any law or third-party right. 

Changes to these terms 

We may revise these terms as our work and our tools change. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms. 

Governing law 

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
