Embedded Communications
and Media Strategy

Since 2021 Salted Logic has provided technical expertise and creative direction to Papa Ola Lokahi as embedded members of their communications division. Because the organization is the main conduit of US Federal funding for Native Hawaiian health services, they require communications and media products to consider current health data, effective sharing of cultural knowledge and wisdom, community partnerships, and long-term funding for critical programs and services.

Based on Salted Logic’s cross-cultural expertise, the partnership’s main objectives are: developing and managing a robust editorial calendar; maintaining internal workflows; coordinating multiple social media platforms; planning seasonal and culturally relevant programming; designing professional development opportunities; providing enhanced graphic design and technical capacity; and producing podcasts and related collateral.

Building a Foundation

With Papa Ola Lokahi facing ever-evolving, post-pandemic challenges, Salted Logic focused on building a comprehensive internal workflow and increasing staff communications capacity. A vital component of this strategy was to design and facilitate an immersive workshop to catalyze positive change, lessen organizational growing pains, and increase media literacy, communications skills (interpersonal and external), and brand awareness.

Leveraging the lessons and insights from six months of embedded programmatic, the Salted Logic team facilitated a three-day interactive experience with almost all staff across the state. Activities identified strengths, gaps, and challenges while providing tools and approaches to support learning and skill-building. The workshop's goal was to create a baseline of knowledge from which the staff could improve their ability to be catalytic storytellers working in service of the vision and mission of Papa Ola Lokahi.

Social Media

With a diversity of health initiatives ranging from smoking cessation, diabetes, and prenatal care to health scholarships, Pacific LGBTQ+ initiatives, and long-term Pandemic recovery, Papa Ola Lokahi’s digital media platforms must successfully merge culture, science, history, and contemporary social trends to reach critical communities effectively.
