Salt + Logic = Creativity

Provocative Podcasts

They Called Me Hapa (1).png

They Called Me Hapa: In March 2021, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center partnered with Salted Logic, an indigenous women-led media collective to bring their Youth Access program to a group of 8 students from Hawai’i. This four-day workshop sought to give the next generation the tools and knowledge to become effective and influential storytellers. As experts of their own lived experience, we asked them to have hard conversations about language, identity, and culture – centered around the word ‘hapa’.

They called me, ‘Hapa’ is a three-part audio experience meant to guide you through conversations around self-acceptance, group identity, and multiculturalism. We welcome you to listen, subscribe, and review wherever you get your podcasts!

Collaborative Murals

Salted Logic partnered with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to produce an original Mosaic Mural to serve as the cover art and internal visuals for their recent report, ‘Haumea: Transforming the Health of Native Hawaiian Women and Empowering Wāhine Well-Being’

Hulili Journal. Special Edition Vo.11 No.1

Salted Logic was honored to create original illustrations and design the page-layout for the 2019 Special Edition of the Hulili Journal.

The full-wrap cover image symbolizes the ideas communicated by the collection of authors, who offer unique perspectives on how macro-level social and historical forces impact the individual lives of everyday Hawaiian people. Each chapter illustration symbolizes the specific theme of that section. The layout and typography was also used to amplify the powerful sentiments expressed by some of Hawai’iʻs most poignant writers, poets, and scholars.

Our multimedia workshops seek to build capacity in the next generation.

As indigenous women, as media makers, our goal is to always create space.

“To all the indigenous kids of the world who want to do art, and dance, and write stories. We are the original storytellers and we can make it here as well.”

– Taika Waititi
